Welcome to the Viable View!

Recent Reading and Learning

Recently I have been reading The Lean Startup by Eric Ries, Steve Blank’s blog, have take Steve Blank’s How to Build a Startup: The Lean LaunchPad course on Udacity, and have read Alexander Osterwalder & Yves Pigneur’s book the Business Model Generation, and am currently reading the Value Proposition Design book by Alex Osterwalder, Yes Pigneur, Greg Bernarda, and Alan Smith. My formal training has been in Chemical Engineering, Instructional Systems Design, and Project Management. My experience is varied and has involved a lot of projects with IT departments and I have seen the models that are used by developers and system architects to determine the design and development of a solution to a problem.

Models

In all of these experiences, I have noticed that many of the models are the same. They involve an analysis and testing your analysis conclusion to see if you are on the right track. It involves a Design or architecture that explains how you are going to do something or what it is going to look like. It involves Development of the final product. From there you sell it, use it, teach it, or fix something using the solution during Implementation. And through each phase Evaluation occurs. The other models have different names such as SDLC and some of the topics have their own phases.

ADDIE

Each theory or model has its own name for the 5 phases and in the instructional systems design field one of the models is called ADDIE which stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. My lens is ADDIE and when I started to read the books and blogs that I mentioned above I started to see them through the ADDIE lens. I started to group the things that I have been learning and have come up with the first rendition of a categorization for some of the topics that I am reading about and other areas of a business.

The Viable View

I know that I am not the first person to see a relationship between many of these topics. I hope to find the person that has developed the perfect model. In the meantime this blog is going to be about my Viable View of these connected and interrelated parts. Viable = feasible, capable of working successfully, capable of growing. Please join me on this journey as I learn more about the topics and try to put them together into my own Viable View.
